| More information: | Born in 1937 in Gasinga, Gisenyi, Rwanda, Juvenal Habyarimana was a Rwandan Army officer who came to power in Rwanda in the coup of July 1973. In 1975, he was the founder of the National Republican Movement for Democracy and Development (MRND), the only legal political party in the country until 1990. Habyarimana remained President of Rwanda until his death in a plane crash in April 1994. |
