Library:

The Genocide Archive of Rwanda library is located at the Kigali Genocide memorial and holds hundreds of titles on the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi. The library includes the following types of books:

  • Scholarly non-fiction

  • Literary and genre fiction

  • Poetry

  • Graphic novels

  • Graphic nonfiction

  • Children’s books

The library offers a full range of services including research assistance and space for researchers to study the material. A computer room is also available to use.

You can consult the library collection here by using our online library catalog. This collection is also accessible at the library. The Genocide Archive of Rwanda library does not lend out material, but you can make photocopies and reserve the books you are interested in.

The Genocide Archive of Rwanda encourages you to use the content on this website for personal, educational, and other noncommercial purposes. Use of the collection must be in line with our Terms and Conditions. The use of images, videos, documents and audio files from the archive requires prior written permission from the archive’s management. If you would like to request particular items from the archive, simply submit a request.

There are no fees to access the archive’s collection, however we welcome donations to help us serve you better, sustain our work and continue to build the archive. To contribute to the work of the archive, donate here.

Some materials found in our collection are subject to privacy interests and therefore not available on this website. Please contact us to enquire about these items.

Become a research affiliate:

The Genocide Archive of Rwanda works with researchers and scholars from around the world who are completing genocide studies research projects. Our Research Affiliates work closely with the archive to organise their field research, examine archival materials and provide strategic input into the development and priorities of the archive.

The work of the archive is enhanced by collaborations with individuals from outside the archive. As a result, the archive’s research team frequently engages external researchers to partner on specific research projects. All Research Affiliates are required to have research permits and other required documentation provided by relevant government institutions prior to taking part in the archive’s research projects.
